Khorasan and Southeaster Persia

Meshed is the center of the Razavi Khorasan province. It is the hometown of the famous Persian poet Ferdowsi who in the 10th century wrote the epic poem Shahnameh (“The Book of Kings”).

Mashad is famous for its old carpet-weaving as well as large sized rug-tying traditions. Local sheep’s wool is very soft, strong and long-lasting. Carpets coming from this region sometimes have the name of the artist  who created the design or even its tier’s name woven into the pattern. However, it doesn’t necessary indicate that the carpet is if high quality or value.
